Started in 1983 the program has provided series
of workshops in art, music, and dance, and lectures
illustrated by slides to 25-30 public schools each
year as a free service. In 1990 cellist Mr. Yo Yo
Ma, initiated a music and an art competition among
the public school students. And he gave two concerts
to raise funds to support the program.
Chinese Culture Institute, now a department of
International Society, continues to offeis education
program to schools.

The four major festivals--The Spring Festival,
the Lantern Festival, The Dragon Boat Festival,
The Mid-autumn Festival (August Moon) Other celebrations
VII. Chinese Religious Thoughts,
Philosophy, and Morality
VIII. Chinese Food
IX. Chinese family system
X. Chinese children's
crafts
XI. Chinese Children's games
XII. Chinese mythology
The twelve workshops/classesl provide an overall
picture of Chinese culture and a solid foundation
for further study on any chosen topic on Chinese
culture.
In addition to the above, a number of special programs
were also offered to many public schools free of
charge. Artists, musicians, speakers were sent to
the schools to lead workshops, conduct demonstrations,
give panel discussions and performances.
Racial Harmony Art-Through instruction and guided
discussion, the students were inspired to create
art work that expressed their comments on the issue
of racism and their visions of and aspirations for
harmony.
Classical Music Concert and Discussion--International
award winning young musicians including Tian Ying,
Miro Zheng Rong Wang and Shu-ching Chen were invited
to perform and lead discussions at school assemblies.
The purposes of this program were two folds: One
was to inspire the high school kids to set goals
in life and strive to achieve those goals. The other
was to thrust those young and highly accomplished
musicians as role models to Asian youth.
Broaden Your Horizon--Workshops, demonstrations,
and talks on various aspects of Chinese culture.
Chinese New Year--a special cultural program
that deals with the traditions and customs of the
new year celebration and festivity
