Humanities
Program
Humanities program was started in 1982. It presented
annual lecture series on Chinese art, history and
contemporary issues. Renowned scholars such as Merle
Goldman, Ross Terrille, Liu Bing-yan, Joan Cohen,
Liu Pinyan and others were invited speakers. Forums,
panel discussions, poetry readings are presented by
the Humanities Program. The topics range from art,
literature, philosophy, architecture, landscape architecture,
fashion and costume, to international relations and
China watch,.
In 1982 with a small grant from the Massachusetts
Foundation for Humanities and Public Policy, a major
research was carried out for a historical documentary
followed by the production of an exhibition, Chinese
in Massachusetts, Their Experiences and Contributions
mounted in 1983. The exhibition drew tremendous attention
from the public, the media and the Massachusetts Foundation
itself. In 1987 the Foundation supported the publication
of a book of the
same title.
