Humanities Program

Humanities program was started in 1982. It presented annual lecture series on Chinese art, history and contemporary issues. Renowned scholars such as Merle Goldman, Ross Terrille, Liu Bing-yan, Joan Cohen, Liu Pinyan and others were invited speakers. Forums, panel discussions, poetry readings are presented by the Humanities Program. The topics range from art, literature, philosophy, architecture, landscape architecture, fashion and costume, to international relations and China watch,.

In 1982 with a small grant from the Massachusetts Foundation for Humanities and Public Policy, a major research was carried out for a historical documentary followed by the production of an exhibition, Chinese in Massachusetts, Their Experiences and Contributions mounted in 1983. The exhibition drew tremendous attention from the public, the media and the Massachusetts Foundation itself. In 1987 the Foundation supported the publication of a book of the same title.
